Independence is a luxury we often take for granted.  But now, seniors and other individuals facing the challenges of age and loss of independence have an alternative:  ElderServe's Senior Companion Program.  Structured for volunteers who want to assist their less able peers, ElderServe's Senior companion Program, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2008, is simply seniors helping seniors.

The Senior Companion Program matches clients recovering from hospitalization or experiencing isolation and loneliness with a caring Senior Companion who will help them to continue living in the comfort of their own homes.

Senior Companion Services

Senior Companions are linked with individual clients and trained to provide daily support and assistance with activities including:

  • Providing respite care for caregivers

  • Accompanying clients to appointments and on shopping trips

  • Companionship

  • Assisting with meal preparation/cleanup

  • Sharing in activities such as arts, crafts and games

Senior Companions also link their clients with community resources and monitor changes in clients' mental and physical health.  Thorough training prepares Senior Companions to provide care and to address a number of special health needs, including acute and chronic disabilities, depression, loneliness and terminal illness.  The care and companionship offered by Senior Companions often result in friendships that last a lifetime.
